MailChimp vs Aweber for Email Marketing

Email marketing is one of the best ways to promote your blog and ultimately, your business. While social media has its place in online promotion and marketing, e-mail marketing has an advantage over most social media posts: every post you send to your e-mail subscribers gets delivered to their personal inbox! The big question is which of the two most popular email marketing service is best, MailChimp or Aweber. As with most service comparisons, the one that will be the best is the one that fits your needs and budget.

Email Marketing Service Attributes

Although there are many other options beyond MailChimp and Aweber, these two are the most popular in email marketing services industry. Knowing which one to choose will come down to what options and attributes you value or need for your business. Some of the biggest differentiators will be:

  • Cost. MailChimp has a free service option; Aweber does not.
  • Customer service. Both have 24/7 mail help.
  • Delivery rates. Both have decent delivery rates; however, Aweber’s is higher.
  • Number of subscribers. Those with small subscriber list may prefer MailChimp
  • Affiliated marketing options. MailChimp does not allow affiliated marketing.

Why You Should Choose Aweber

For those with large e-mail lists with over 2,000 subscribers, Aweber will most likely be the best option. Although Aweber is not free like MailChimp for those with less than 2,000 subscribers, it is a better cost option compared to MailChimp once the list goes over the free limit. In addition, Aweber has a higher delivery rate, over 99%, and has affiliated marketing options, unlike MailChimp that does not. For most businesses that are serious about starting a professional email marketing program, Aweber will be the better option.

When MailChimp May Be the Best Choice

Although Aweber has features that outperform MailChimp such as their delivery rate, affiliated marketing and tracking options, MailChimp still has a big benefit; it is free to those with smaller mailing lists. For those just getting started in email marketing to promote their business or blog, MailChimp is perfectly functional and is free. The delivery rate is good as is their customer service, just not as highly rated as Aweber. It is also easy to use, which is great for beginners and has very nice templates.
