Delegate, Focus, and GROW Your Business

Is Your Blog Bogging You Down?

No one knows your business like you. It makes perfect sense for a small business owner to want to write their own blog, offering insights to their customers. However, it is also a big drain on your time. Keeping your blog current with new information once a week can take you away from other areas of your business that really need your expertise. What you need is a plan for your blog and maybe an extra hand adding new content on a regular basis to keep your blog from bogging you down.

Managing Your Blogging Efforts

Having a blog is a great way to inform customers of new products or services, offer industry advice and increase traffic to your website. Yet to be effective, you need to have a plan in place to ensure you are offering quality content on a consistent schedule. To ensure that your blog is well-balanced, here are a few tips to get a plan in place:

  • Create a blogging calendar. A good way to stay on track with your blog is a pre-planned 60-day blogging calendar. Plan out topics for a minimum of two months, scheduling at least one blog per week.
  • Diversify your blogs. A good rule of thumb for blog content is the 80/20 rule. You want at least 80% of your content to be informational versus promotional. This can help with SEO and bring more new traffic to your blog.
  • Word count. Medium-size blogs are what you want to strive for when determining word count. For SEO, at least 400 words is desirable. However, blogs that are too long may discourage readers.

If you are a small business owner, you may not have the resources to ensure all this is accomplished along with everything else you have on your plate. While you might enjoy contributing to your blog with your personal thoughts, it is not necessary to be the only person writing and managing your blog. Let us help you through our Virtual Assistant and Copywriting services.
