Delegate, Focus, and GROW Your Business

Is Your Website User-Friendly?

You spend enormous amounts of time and money to bring new traffic to your website, only to have new visitors click back off in a matter of seconds. Online consumer are a finicky bunch, with an attention span that seems to be dwindling. The fact is that you only have a brief moment to capture their interest once they click through to your site, making it critical that your site is appealing, user-friendly and working correctly. If you are not converting new traffic into sales, it may be time to consider a website overhaul.

Simplicity is Key

When it comes to website content and format, the first rule is to keep it simple. Too much information will quickly overwhelm a new visitor that does not have the time to read 100 reasons why your products or services are the best. Clear, concise content with an easy to navigate format is the key to keeping those visitors on your website for more than a nanosecond. Some basic tips for simplicity include:

  • Use your white space. Too many words clustered in paragraphs can discourage new traffic to your site from reading more. There should be plenty of white space on your pages, with subtitles and bullet points to help your visitors find the information they are looking for quickly.
  • Offer shortcuts. Do not make your visitors search for the button to learn more. Offer links and shortcuts that will get them to where they want to go.
  • Main categories/pages. Limit the total amount of main pages or categories on your header. Too many can be confusing. Offer subcategories and subpages instead.

Maintain Your Site

If your website is not responding correctly or links are not working, it can have a large impact on your business. Unfortunately, if you are not having your website maintained, it could be days, weeks or even months before you find out there is a problem. To ensure that every link and button is working as it should, you need to have regular maintenance performed on your website.
