Goal Setting – The Disaster That Follows

We’ve all heard it: The highest achievers set goals for success. But what happens when you set goals and fail to achieve them – time and again? The answer may surprise you.

When you go through the act of setting a goal there is an immediate endorphin rush. It’s the anticipation of something new on the horizon. You’re excited about the potential of change and at times you can’t help but focus on what will come out of it. Goal achievement is one of the biggest highs a person can experience.

This applies to the opposite as well. Failing to meet a goal can be detrimental to your health, not to mention your psyche. As a goal slips through your hands (and there can be hundreds of reasons why) it wears on your mind. It acts as a weight preventing you from focusing on the important tasks moving you forward.

When you study goal setting failure, you will notice most business minds overlook an important aspect of their goal setting. They remain nearsighted because of everything from egos to lack of know-how. These gaps can keep their future achievements at arm’s length slowing down their progress.

Here are a couple of tips to pay attention to when goal setting:

Tackling Too Much On Your Own

Say you have a sales goal to increase transaction sizes. You write down everything you can think of to help increase sales. As you look over your list you see there are several tasks needing done. But how can you get everything done yourself and still work on your daily activities? This is when having a virtual assistant can pay off.

How well you can lighten your own workload will determine your success or failure.

Unrealistic Deadlines

Another goal setting stumbling block is underestimating the amount of time needed to achieve the goal. Business owners can be an impatient bunch. Once the vision comes into focus, goal achievement should be close to follow. Again, tackling too much without the aid of a VA can lead to goal setting failure.

In closing, many goals fall flat after the honeymoon is over. The reality of what needs to be done can be overwhelming, which leads to paralysis by analysis. Yes, ego may drive you forward, but stress will soon take its toll. Having a Virtual Assistant to hand off work to will increase goal achievement faster than tackling everything alone.
