Author’s Platform – 3,2,1 Launch!

They say writing a book is the easy part; marketing the book is much tougher. That’s why my client, having just published her first book, came to me for help. My client hadn’t worked with a Virtual Assistant prior to this project, so she really didn’t know what to expect.

As her Dedicated Virtual Assistant, I enjoyed learning about the book my client had written and hearing her enthusiasm about finally releasing it to the public. In turn, I was able to share with her the broad possibilities available through online marketing. Being able to communicate the intricacies involved in successful online marketing in a way that provides valuable understanding to my clients is something that gives me great satisfaction.

We started with the creation of a website design specifically targeted towards promotion of her book. Since website design and development is one of my core skill-sets, she didn’t need to look for a separate source for this critical piece of her online marketing strategy. WordPress theme management is also part of my knowledge-base; I was able to guide her in selecting a theme that both matched the look and feel she wanted and also include the proper functionality she would need.

Building a website is something like building a house; there are a lot of little decisions to be made throughout the process. A domain name needs to be chosen and purchased, along with a hosting platform that will be reliable. There are thousands of themes to select from, which then can be customized with font choices, color pallets and graphics. All the small details can be overwhelming if you don’t have someone with experience to guide you with practical knowledge about the benefits and drawbacks related to each choice.

The next two steps in this author’s promotional strategy were an email newsletter and social media engagement. For these, I created a graphical newsletter template that complimented her website branding and could be utilized in an automated email list service. As the launch date for her book approaches, I am working with her in developing a series of social media posts to help spread the word to a broader audience.

Working on projects that have great personal meaning to my clients is the impetus that keeps me moving forward in my profession as a Virtual Assistant. Knowing I’ve helped them accomplish something that will help further their dream is what it’s all about.
