Delegate, Focus, and GROW Your Business

Saving Time While Researching Online. Is It Possible?

If you’ve ever wondered how you could squeeze more time out of your day, you’re not alone. People everywhere are trying to speed things up and have leaned on technology more and more often.

The internet is a great tool for quickly finding the information you need, but it can also be a time suck. Whether you are planning your travel, seeking marketing advice or checking up on your competitors, you can speed up your online research process with a little dedication and some time management.

Set a Schedule and Stick to It

One of the hardest things about doing research online is staying on task. It’s so easy to get distracted with emails, catchy headlines and even social media. There are distractions all around us. Taking breaks are healthy, if they are planned, but not in the middle of a task. Allow yourself a set amount of time for your research task, and stick to it! Focus is important to avoid distraction.

Change Strategy

It’s also important to know when to throw in the towel.  If you can’t find the information you are looking for, try phrasing it a different way, or using a different search engine. Google, Bing and Yahoo! search can each deliver a different list of results. The nugget of information you want is out there, you just need the right tools to prospect it!

Know Thy Browser

Your search engine is one of the best resources. Get to know the shortcuts and filters that you can apply. Make sure you keep your browsing history turned on so you can go back for a quick comparison or confirmation. Set up alerts, so you will get a report every time a phrase or name you are looking for is mentioned online. Also, get familiar with advanced search features. Knowing how to use symbols and phrasing to narrow or broaden your search is a time saver.

Get the Facts

Before you sit down to look up what you need, make sure you have all the facts. What’s the exact spelling of the location? Is there a particular word that needs to be included in order to get the correct search results? Make sure you start out with facts, so you’re not stuck researching the information you need into a dead end.

Sometimes doing your own research seems like more work than you have time for, especially if you’re not already friendly with the programs and browsers. Online research is a perfect task to delegate to your virtual assistant. Virtual assistants are highly skilled  in the use of online tools for research. Save some time online. Turn those research tasks over to a virtual assistant, so you can focus on the more important task of running your business.
