Delegate, Focus, and GROW Your Business

Finding the VA That’s Right for You

So, you’ve decided to hire a Virtual Assistant.  It makes sense, right? Their professionalism and expertise can bring your business to the next level, but where do you start?  How do you know if this person is the right fit, especially since a majority of your relationship is online?

Here are a few things to keep in mind when looking for a VA.

  1. EXPECTATIONS–You need to find someone who values what you value in a business relationship. How long is an acceptable time frame for a return email or call? These are things that need to be discussed so you can move forward together without the frustration of guessing expectations.
  1. PERSONALITY—This, I’m sure, is no surprise. If you’re working with a long-term VA, you will need someone you are comfortable with…who is friendly and understands the way you communicate. If you don’t “click” on some level, the relationship may be strained.
  1. SCHEDULES—Basically, you need to find a VA that has office hours that will best accommodate your day to day operations. Keep in mind variables such as time zones and whether or not they work on weekends or evenings. Perhaps you need someone after business hours for customer support. Find the VA that is on track with your schedule for the most success.
  1. BACKGROUND—This one is all about experience. A VA with a background in your field may have better insight into what your specific needs are. It’s important to know what their skills are or if they have the credentials you need to get the job done. One of the perks of having a VA is to benefit from their experience—so find one perfect for your business.
  1. TIME MANAGEMENT—Time is money, as they say. You need to find a VA that has excellent time management skills, meaning they can prioritize quickly and change the direction of focus with minimal lag. Having an organized VA leads to a more efficient work flow and ensures deadlines are met.

Now that you’re ready to choose to your VA, you can start thinking of what you need to delegate. Make a list of the everyday tasks that you need to clear from your schedule so you can focus on the details of your business and let the VA take care of it for you!
