Who’s Keeping All Your Online Profiles Up to Date?

The sheer number of online profiles today can be daunting. From Facebook to Amazon to Google+, the number of places where your information is stored online is numerous. Each site is unique and used for different purposes as well, so the information shared on each site should be customized slightly. It is best to do an online profile audit every few months to ensure your information is correct.

Here are some steps to take to get all your online profiles up to date!

First, identify the places where you need a profile and where your profiles need to be updated. Common channels are Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, Reddit, and YouTube. Research what channels are most important to you and your business. Some online profiles may be more important to you than others and that’s okay as long as the information on the other sites isn’t out of date.

Tip: Google yourself and see what social profiles come up. See if you are consistent across the channels and make note of what needs to be changed.

Secondly, make sure that you have all the information you need to put into your profiles ready. This means everything such as your email, correct phone number, URL of your website and your logo/tagline in various sizes and formats.

Tip: Use the same email address for all your accounts to keep the information streamlined. If you have an email associated with your business, make sure to use that and not your personal one.

Lastly, ensure your brand is the same on all platforms. You may think that you don’t even have a brand but in the online world, who you present yourself as is your brand. For example, say you own a shoe store but you buy your shoes off Amazon and that is part of your profile. That is damaging to your brand—think about the way you are presenting yourself and ensure that privacy is intact wherever possible.

Tip: Pick your top 5 online profiles and maximize the content and information. Preferably edit the ones that are coming up in the top of the Google results from earlier. That way if anyone Google’s you, they will have all the correct information.

All in all, it is crucial to have uniformity online. There is a lot of work to be done to keep everything in sync and sometimes it’s best to offload that to a virtual assistant (VA). There are only so many hours in the day!
