Delegate, Focus, and GROW Your Business

Scale Your Business By Documenting Processes

Maybe you are an entrepreneur in the early stages of your business or maybe you are a full-fledged business with multiple employees. Either way, it is crucial for your success to create and document processes.

Although at first documenting your processes may seem like extra work, in the long-run it will help you save time and ensure that you can be successful in your business.

To identify what processes you should document, start by tracking your time.

Track your time for a week.

Once you figure out what you are spending most of your time on, you will be able to easily identify the processes you need to streamline the most. This will also show you the things you do multiple times in a day or week. Anything that is repetitive and taking up your time can be documented and streamline.

Be honest about where you need help.

It is important to identify which of your systems are working well and try to replicate them in other areas. More importantly, however, identify what is causing you the most struggle and brainstorm ways to make the process of that task more efficient and painless.

Automate the processes you do regularly.

Make a list of the processes you do every day or even once a week. For example, do you try to tweet five times a day? Updating social media is something you could create a process for and then hand-off to a virtual assistant or intern. Also, consider software that can automate posting or emails!

Start documenting your current processes.

It’s best to start in Excel or Word and go from there. Make step by step lists of everything it takes for you to do to complete the task at hand. Have a team member or friend try to complete the process and see what they do differently or what they suggest. Don’t forget to take screenshots or create images to help simplify the process!

Put the documentation into action.

Research ways to complete your tasks easier or keep it as simple as editing out unnecessary steps in your documentation. There are a lot of automation software programs that can make your life easier as well. Even free programs like Google Docs can aid in this process. Other programs include Trello and Zapier that can create automated responses.

Overall, in order to grow in your business, it is crucial to streamline your processes by documenting them. Make sure to keep the processes simple and concise and you will be growing your business in no time!
