3 Writing Strategies That Really Work
The one thing we can all agree on about writing it’s that it’s difficult. No matter what you’re writing, you have to think about audience, voice, and interesting content (not to mention spelling and grammar!).
If you’re not a “natural” writer, then you may often get frustrated when the words aren’t quite coming out how you want them to. Avoid the frustration and read below for three writing strategies that really work.
1. When Writing, Don’t Try Too Hard
It may sound counter-intuitive, but a lot of the time writer’s block is just you over-thinking everything. If you’re having a lot of trouble, don’t listen to your “inner editor” when you’re typing. The best thing to do is just get all of your thoughts out first, and then edit later (or have a professional edit for you).
2. Outline Everything You Want to Say
Remember outlines? You used to have to turn them in before you wrote an essay in middle school, and your teacher would approve them. Turns out, those really work! An outline is a really effective way to visualize all of your thoughts and have a guide to help you through the writing process while you’re typing.
3. Speak to Your Audience
When you’re having trouble thinking of content, just think about your audience. Are they your customers? Potential customers? Get inside their minds and think about what they would want to hear from you. Are you an expert on real estate? Then write about what you know. Write tips on when is the best time to sell or what cities in your area are having booming real estate markets. The important thing to remember is to not be too sales-y, so that the content your readers are taking the time to look at provides helpful information. They really aren’t interested in reading a sales pitch.
Hire a Writer to Write Your Content
Hey—not everyone is good at everything. You may have a brilliant business mind, but you may not be much of a writer. That’s perfectly OK. However, you’re still going to need someone to write web content, social media posts, or other types of content writing for your business.
That’s where a virtual assistant can come in handy. At Contemporary Virtual Assistants, we have specially trained writers who are skilled in web content, blogging, press releases, newsletter articles, etc.
They’ll help take your content to a level you never thought possible. And the best part is that all you have to do is read, provide suggestions, and approve. How easy is that?
