4 Tips to Increase Productivity

With an increasing amount of pressure to get more things done in a shorter amount of time, it often seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day. So, how do you ensure that you’re productive enough during the day (minus drinking all of the coffee that they sell at Starbucks)?

Here are a few tips to increase your productivity (and work less hours at the office).

1. Track How Much Time You’re Spending on Every Task

It’s so easy to get distracted when you’re doing anything. From getting phone calls to surfing the internet to plain ol’ staring off into space, there are so many things that waste time. Try tracking how much time you’re spending on tasks by using an online timesheet or an old-fashioned stopwatch. Once you have an estimate for how long you’re spending on daily tasks, you can think of ways to decrease the amount of time you spend on each item to increase your productivity.

2. Set Deadlines—and Keep Them

You may have hard deadlines for projects with clients, but what about self-imposed deadlines? If you have a task that needs getting done that has no real deadline, it’s really hard to force yourself to get down to the work. Try setting “deadlines” for yourself to see if it can help you pick up the pace a little bit.

3. Figure Out if that Meeting is Worth Your Time

Meetings are an important part of many people’s days. But sometimes it seems like meetings can simply happen over a series of emails that doesn’t have to take up your whole day. If you have a couple of weekly meetings that you think would be better served online, try suggesting that to your team. You’d be surprised at what you can do with all that free time!

4. Take Breaks

It might seem counterintuitive that taking a break would actually lead to more productivity, but it can really help improve your concentration. Research has shown that taking short breaks throughout the day will help you maintain a consistent level of performance when taking on a big project. Go ahead and take that coffee break with your favorite coworker with absolutely no guilt!

Another fool-proof way to be more productive is to hire a virtual assistant to do administrative tasks, social media work, and more. Learn more about what the services of a virtual assistant can do for your company by visiting Contemporary Virtual Assistant’s website.
