Delegate, Focus, and GROW Your Business

Should I be Blogging for My Company?

Any company with an online presence is expected to put out some marketing material out into the world—whether it’s social media updates, YouTube videos, Instagram photos, or eBooks. But one of the most tried and true ways to increase web traffic for a low cost is blogging.

Blogs have the ability to drive traffic to your page, let customers know about your experience and services, and get blog readers to know a little bit more about your company in the process. However, blogging isn’t something that can be done just once in a while or be done with a lackadaisical effort. In order to really reap the benefits, blogging is something that should be completed with a lot of thought (and a lot of spelling and grammar checks).

So, should you be blogging for your company? Here are a couple of things to think about before you commit.

You Should Post to Your Blog Regularly

In order for your company blog to have an impact on your SEO (search engine optimization), you should really commit to posting at least once per week, but ideally you should be writing two or more to really connect to your audience. If you can, posting on the same days will also help. Not only will it be more consistent for your work week schedule, but it’ll also be easier for blog readers to remember that you post every Tuesday and Thursday and check the website (versus a random schedule).

You Should Post Interesting Updates

Not every blog that you write is going to be Pulitzer worthy, but at the very least you should have an interesting update or tidbit of expert advice for your reader. You definitely want to avoid writing something along the lines of “there’s not a whole lot new going on around the business” because that’s not going to be something new or interesting for people to read.

“I Don’t Have Time to Blog but I Still Want the Benefits”

Some business owners who don’t consider themselves wordsmiths (or simply don’t have the time to commit to blogging) may not want to blog, but they still are interested in the benefits. In this case, it would be beneficial for the business owner to hire someone to handle the blog for them. This also might be a good idea for a business owner who has started their own blog but who has too many responsibilities now to be able to keep up with it effectively.

Luckily, there are many writers and content development companies who are out there to assist with writing for companies—helping them stay on brand, increase their Google rankings, and connect with their customers.
