3 Things to Bring with You to a Conference

Attending a conference is a great opportunity to learn from experts in your field and meet new colleagues all over the country (or even all over the world) who can be a great asset for business advice and guidance. But attending your first conference ever can be a really intimidating experience, especially if you’re all by yourself.

If you’ve never attended a conference before, it can be overwhelming to know exactly what the expectations are like what to wear, how to network, and what to bring with you so that you’re prepared to make these business connections.

Here are three things to bring with you to a conference to help you prepare.

Something that Makes You Feel Confident

You may not be attending a conference for the fashion industry, but what you wear will show a lot about who you are to others. You may work in your pajamas or a t-shirt and jeans, but it’s important to at least get a little spiffy for conferences. Wearing something that makes you feel confident and fits correctly will ensure that you’re not tugging or pulling on your outfit all day.

Your Business Cards

If you have some business cards already made up, this is a must-bring to any conference that you may be attending—no matter how big or small the conference is. Have these handy throughout the day so that you don’t have to keep your business connection waiting. (If you don’t have any business cards made up, be sure to reach out to our expert virtual assistants who can help you design a logo for your cards, website, and other promotional materials.)

It’s likely that you’re going to be spending a fair amount of time exchanging business cards with other professionals at the conference. In order to remember who’s who in your collection of business cards, jot down a few details from your conversation to help you remember which card belongs to which professional. You definitely wouldn’t want to email the wrong person post-conference!

A Good Notebook and a Handy Pen

While some people lug their laptops to each and every conference, unless you are presenting it doesn’t typically make sense for you to bring your laptop with you everywhere. There are exceptions of course, such as a tech conference. But if you’re just going to be taking notes during sessions and networking, you should bring a good notebook and a handy pen in your bag.
