Manage Your List With CVA’s Infusionsoft Tune-Up

Managing your email list and regular fine-tuning of your CRM is vitally important. By the time you’re alerted to an issue (an email from your service provider is something you do NOT want!) you already have issues. You’ve hurt your reputation and have wasted money and time emailing people who are NOT getting your emails.

Why Your List Needs A Tune Up

Proactive email list cleaning is an essential part of any successful email marketing strategy and one we can help you with!

It is important to deep clean your list often to remove unneeded contacts and keep your message strong. This is especially true when your list has a large volume of contacts and your business uses email marketing for customer relationships and sales.

Regular list management techniques will allow you to:

  • Reduce costs
  • Increase the delivery of your emails into the inbox
  • Improve the opening rates, click-through rates, and conversions
  • Keep a good reputation with ISPs

Let’s explore these topics further.

List Management Benefits

Increase Email Deliverability

Deliverability is the desired outcome of email statistics. A high deliverability rate means that you are doing many important things the right way.

As your deliverability rate lowers, so does your reputation with internet service providers (ISPs). A poor reputation will lower your deliverability even further, making it hard to get back on the “right” side of things. . Avoid this death spiral by cleaning your email list regularly to eliminate invalid data and keep your reputation pristine.

Reduce Your Bounce Rate

Bounce rate is an important sign of the health of your list.

List cleaning keeps your bounce rate low by removing the invalid, discontinued, and fake emails that are responsible for most hard bounces while also identifying contacts and emails that could be at risk of being a soft bounce, still impacting your delivery rate.

If your bounce rate goes above 3 to 5%, you will immediately see a negative impact on your deliverability and inbox rates. At 8 to 10%, your delivery rates will be dramatically impacted, making even your good contacts miss your news!

Get In The Inbox

So, your deliverability rate looks good, but that doesn’t mean you’re in the clear. If you’re not working to keep your list clean, some of those emails are likely being “delivered” to junk mail. While they’re still going to be included in your deliverability rate – they’re not landing in the Inbox.

According to research by Return Path, 79% of emails worldwide found their way to their target inbox in 2016. As well as, 13% of all emails sent ended up in the junk folders. In addition, only about 1% of them were found by the user and moved to the inbox.

Following the best practices of email marketing plays a large role in inbox placement rates but email list cleaning is also essential.

Great subject lines and reputable links alone are not going to keep you in the inbox. If your company is known for sending to unresponsive, closed, or inactive email accounts, your emails will get flagged and redirected to the junk folder.

Protect Your Reputation

Undelivered emails and spam traps can negatively impact your sender’s reputation quickly. Spam traps, also known as honeypots, are valid email addresses created expressly for the purpose of catching spammers at work. The internet is like being in high school again- once you get a bad reputation word spreads quickly. You will soon find yourself blocked from the inboxes you want to reach.

And you don’t have just one reputation to protect.  Previously, your email sender reputation was all about server (or IP) reputation. While server reputation is still very important, watching out for your domain reputation is just as important.

Your domain reputation reflects permanently on your brand and will follow you wherever you go. Changing servers or even switching email service providers (or CRM’s) won’t get rid of a bad reputation. It plays an increasingly large role in deliverability. A bad domain reputation doesn’t just impact your marketing efforts: your customer service and sales teams might start finding their daily communications lost in clients’ junk folders as well- all because your domain has been tarnished.
